DRIVE OF YOUR LIFE
Help build DOYL
Back to the basics, for people who feel stuck due to chronic stress, burnout, or a loss of direction.
My name is Pim.
I help people who feel stuck due to stress, burnout, or a lack of direction to reconnect with themselves — not through endless talking, but through experience, simplicity, and nature.
My goal is to convert an expedition truck into a mobile base for outdoor programs. Away from screens and constant noise. Back to physical challenge, calm, and genuine connection. Below, you can read how I plan to make this happen.
With your support, DOYL becomes reality.
Burnout requires a different approach.
Drive Of Your Life (DOYL) is a developing initiative focused on the prevention and recovery of chronic stress and burnout.
Not by talking about symptoms, but by working with energy, the body, and awareness in everyday life.
Too many people are still functioning, but no longer truly living. They are exhausted without knowing why. Strong on paper, empty on the inside. DOYL is the necessary reset that will change this.
Through DOYL, people take the wheel of their lives back into their own hands and rediscover their Drive Of Your Life.

Why DOYL is needed
Burnout does not happen overnight. It is usually the result of prolonged overload, ignored warning signs, and an environment where “pushing through” is the norm. Many people have lost their foundation: too little physical exertion, no real silence, no meaningful challenge, and a lack of brotherhood and genuine connection. Burnout is no longer an exception; it has become a logical outcome.
In the current approach to burnout:
-
support often starts only after someone has already collapsed
-
there is little time to tell the full story
-
the focus lies mainly on mental complaints and diagnoses
What is often missing is attention to the body, the energy system, and the daily reality of someone trying to function in a high-pressure society.
From personal experience, I know how wide the gap is between what someone with burnout truly needs and what the healthcare system can offer. DOYL bridges that gap by removing people from their stressful environment and helping them rediscover what they need to remain strong, grounded, and resilient in the long term.
Do you want to contribute to a different way of dealing with burnout?
Too many people hit a breaking point before there is space for real attention and prevention. From the very beginning, DOYL aims to contribute to a more human-centered approach.
Through a donation, loan, or sponsorship, you help make this initiative possible.
Why now
The world has become faster, more crowded, and more demanding.
Work pressure, stimuli, and expectations continue to increase, while moments for recovery are becoming increasingly scarce.
The numbers make it clear: one in five working people in the Netherlands experiences stress-related complaints (according to CBS). Behind those numbers are individuals who:
-
lose their energy
-
lose trust in their own bodies
-
drift further and further away from themselves
At the same time, knowledge about prevention, body-oriented work, and the importance of personal agency is growing. More and more people are realizing that talking alone is not always enough.
This is the moment to build something new.
Not as a replacement for healthcare, but as a meaningful addition.
DOYL is at the very beginning. Precisely now, the foundation can be laid for a different approach.
What is DOYL?
DOYL is a mobile platform for physical and mental recalibration.
At its core is a multi-day journey to unique locations, in a small group (maximum of six participants) to ensure maximum impact. This impact comes from the combination of physical movement, breathwork, moments of reflection, simplicity, nature, and guidance by a licensed clinical psychologist.
DOYL does not focus solely on what is going wrong, but on what a person needs to regain resilience, recover sustainably, and move forward. No quick fixes, but lasting change that fits the individual’s real life.
Through this approach, participants learn to:
-
better understand their energy levels
-
recognize early signs of overload
-
reconnect with their bodies
-
gradually reclaim personal control
The expedition truck is a functional and symbolic element: transportation, base camp, and safety hub, representing the journey each participant makes. The truck makes DOYL scalable, visible, and independent.
DOYL is raw where it needs to be. Safe where it must be. And always human.
Do you want to help make DOYL a reality?
DOYL is an approach in development, built on experience and the conviction that prevention and recovery can be done differently. Your contribution helps shape this vision further and make it accessible to more people.
Support is possible through a donation, loan, or sponsorship.
Who am I
My name is Pim van der Zalm. I am a proud father of two boys and the founder of Drive Of Your Life (DOYL). What I am building is not a traditional coaching business, but a mission-driven enterprise: preventing burnout, supporting sustainable recovery for people experiencing burnout, and helping organizations manage this structural risk.
My background was shaped in environments where responsibility, collaboration, and reliability are not optional, but essential. As the son of a firefighter, I learned early on what camaraderie, duty, and standing up for one another truly mean. I later deepened these values during my years in the Royal Netherlands Air Force, where I worked as a helicopter technician in teams where mistakes were not an option and trust literally protected lives.
In the corporate world, I saw the contrast: high pressure, little recovery, and limited genuine connection. People who are loyal, hardworking, and keep going—until their body or mind forces them to stop. I did not just witness this; I lived it myself. My own depression and burnout were not coincidences, but the result of prolonged giving without boundaries. That insight has defined my current path.
My personal recovery process taught me not only how burnout develops, but—more importantly—what sustainable recovery looks like. Not through talking alone, but by taking the body seriously again, restoring structure, learning to feel and respect boundaries, and bringing people back to their foundation. That experience lies at the heart of DOYL.
As a leader and coach, I am known for calmness, reliability, and clarity. People tend to feel safe with me quickly. I listen, analyze, and name what is needed—even when that is confronting. In my role as head of technical services at a large holiday park, I have demonstrated my ability to build teams where people grow, take responsibility, and remain sustainably employable.
As a father of two boys (aged 9 and 11), I see how working on myself and finding my direction has a strong influence on my children. It brings them more calm and a greater sense of safety. There is a quieter energy at home, and they are fully supported in all their emotions and personal development.
What I am doing now
To give DOYL concrete form, I am already working with several methods that help people restore energy and balance:
Breathwork
Focused on restoring calm, focus, and resilience. Breathing techniques help reduce tension in body and mind and increase overall energy.
Ice baths
Short exposure to cold enhances resilience, improves stress regulation, and increases awareness of physical responses.
Physical training
Aimed at strengthening the body, improving energy balance, and coping more effectively with daily demands.
These practical methods form the foundation of DOYL. They demonstrate that change is possible, that small daily interventions can have a significant impact, and that personal guidance and self-awareness go hand in hand.
With your support, these methods can be expanded, further developed, and made accessible to a wider audience through DOYL.
Do you want to contribute to what is already happening and to what it can be?
The way I currently work with breathwork, ice baths, and physical training forms the foundation of DOYL. With your support, this approach can be further developed and applied on a broader scale.
You can contribute through a donation, loan, or sponsorship.
